Created for a Purpose: Lead the Church in Worship
Objective: My calling as a Worship Pastor is to lead the church to dwell in the presence of God through worship, not only during our weekend gatherings, but in our everyday lives. My desire is to lead a worship ministry that is motivated to share the love and message of Jesus because of what He has done in and through our lives. Every note that we play and song that we sing will be relevant, rooted in scripture and executed with excellence to the Glory of God with the best of our abilities.
A Redemptive Story
My entire life has been a redemptive journey and I continue to be amazed at what God has done in and through my life. I have had a fairly significant stuttering problem since I was a little kid. As a student in elementary school I was laughed and mocked in class nearly everyday. I would get super nervous even at the thought of reading aloud in class and sweat it out the entire class. I quickly learned that although I didn’t have a great ability to speak, I was gifted in other ways, particularly on a basketball court or baseball field. So I would try to silence those critics that laughed and mocked me by showing them up in sports.
I also found solace in doing solos and singing in kids’ choirs at church. For whatever reason I was able to sing with no problems at all and to my amazement, I was actually quite good at it. As I went through Middle School and High School I continually tried to get out of giving speeches or doing anything that involved using my voice in front of a crowd because I was so terrified of it. Sports and church became the things that kept me out of trouble.
I went to college to play baseball and my dream was to play professional baseball for the Atlanta Braves. After my sophomore year of college God called me to give up my dreams of playing baseball and He planted within me a new dream. This new dream was to lead His people in Worship through song. That calling caused me quite a struggle with God because I was a really good pitcher. Baseball was my plan because I wouldn’t have to be up in front of people using my voice all the time instead I could just play the game.
Throughout the Bible we see that God often calls the unqualified or the not so obvious choice. We see Moses pleading with God not to choose him because he couldn't speak well .Yet he was able to lead thousands of people out of captivity, across parted waters, and ultimately those people found the promised land. Moses trusted God to do what He said He would do and because of that trust, he became a great leader.
To this day, I am amazed that my profession is just the thing that I thought that I would never be able to do, The fact that God called me to use my voice causes me to want to trust Him more. I know the truth in Ephesians 3:20 - "God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we can ever ask or even think". I have learned that when we quit trying to figure it out in our own strength and rely on God to do what He said He would do, that is when we will see victory.
